Regarding Stephen Harriman's article about San Antonio (Sunday Break, March 5), I question whether he has ever been in Texas.
In my 47 years of living in Texas, I never saw one solitary man wearing a ``10-gallon'' hat anywhere, much less inside a restaurant. Most of the men wearing cowboy hats in Texas are what is commonly called ``drugstore cowboys,'' and they don't go to restaurants; they go to ``The Lone Star Cafe'' where being loud and rowdy is OK. Truck stops are also a good spot to find them.
These are the same fellows who drive pickups, not because they are fashionable but because they have a bottomless pit in back where they can throw their empty beer cans.
