BELT YOUR CHILDREN

My concern is for children in vehicles. I was driving home recently, following a vehicle containing two adults and one child. The child was approximately 8 to 10 years of age. The parents were both dutifully wearing their seat belts but allowed the child to stand up, bounce around the vehicle and hang by his arms between the two front seats. If the vehicle were to have hit another vehicle, a pole or a tree, the child would have vaulted through the windshield.

It is obvious to me that the parents of that child have never seen the broken, shattered body of a dead child involved in a vehicle accident. The parents would probably say they love their child, but from where I was sitting it appeared that their own welfare was paramount and they were unconcerned about their child.

I hope parents will start paying more attention to their children when riding in vehicles, and take action to make sure they are not the ones attending the funeral of a child who died from their negligence.
