GRAHAM R. HARRELL SR.

Graham R. Harrell Sr., 69, of the 1100 block of Virginia Ave., died March 13, 1995, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Mr. Harrell was born in Gatesville, N.C., and was a retired superintendent of American Export Lines after 20 years. He was a member of Rosemont Christian Church, Chesapeake; South Norfolk Masonic Lodge (NU)339; Scottish Rite Bodies of Norfolk; Khedive Temple of the Shrine; life member of Disabled American Veterans, J. Robert Graham Chapter (NU)26, Chesapeake; served in the U.S. Army, World War II in the European theater and was awarded the Purple Heart and Combat Infantryman Badge. He was past president of South Norfolk Jaycees; served on City of South Norfolk School Board and City of Chesapeake School Board; served on South Norfolk Port and Industrial Commission; was a member of International Longshoreman's Association, Local (NU)1624 for 38 years and had worked as a checker and steamship clerk.

Survivors include his wife, Marie B. Harrell; a daughter, Marie Dianne Bradley of Chesapeake; a son, Graham R. Harrell Jr. of Chesapeake; two sisters, Edna Watkins of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Barbara Clingman of Williamsburg, Va.; a brother, Harry P. Harrell of Portsmouth; and a grandchild, William Ralph Harrell of Chesapeake.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, by the Rev. Robert Harrell. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will be at 1136 Virginia Ave., Chesapeake.
