ADMIRALS LOSE PASCUCCI, TEMPORARILY, TO IHL TEAM

The Hampton Roads Admirals lost defenseman Ron Pascucci to Kansas City of the IHL on Tuesday, but the loss will be temporary.

Pascucci was called up to Kansas City to replace an injured player.

Admirals coach John Brophy said Pascucci will return soon.

``He's going to play three games and then he'll be back with us,'' Brophy said. ``It will be good experience for him, and we'll have him for the playoffs.''

Pascucci is the second Admiral to play in Kansas City. Goaltender Corwin Saurdiff was called up in late January and recently was reassigned to the Admirals.

Center John Porco will be back in the lineup tonight against Roanoke at Scope after several weeks with Saint John of the AHL.

BIG HEARTS: Roanoke, which leads the East Division, has more than a great hockey club. It has great fans.

The Roanoke Express Booster Club paid for Elysia Pefley, a 10-year-old suburban Detroit youngster, to fly to Roanoke to watch the Express beat the Admirals, 3-2, in a shootout last Saturday.

Pefley became attached to Roanoke forward Craig Herr when he played for the Detroit Falcons of the Colonial Hockey League. Pefley has terminal cancer, and hockey is her passion, thanks to Herr, whom she met two years ago when he was visiting a cancer ward.

He quickly became a family friend. Elysia's mother, Anita, is eight months pregnant with a baby boy. He will be named Craig Pefley, in Herr's honor.

``She's like my little sister,'' Herr said. ``She's one of my best friends. I love the kid.''

MAJIC MAN: Of all the things that could be said of Ron Majic, you can't say the Admirals' forward is stingy about stats.

Last week in a game at Scope, he stationed himself in front of the net and tipped in a shot by a teammate with his blade. He was obscured from the view of most of his teammates, the referee and the off-ice officials by other players, but not from press row. The goal was credited to a teammate.

Usually, players who haven't been credited with a goal request a change in scoring. Majic made no such request.

At game's end, Majic was asked if he scored a goal.

``You saw it, huh?'' he said. ``Yeah, I got my stick on it.''

When asked why he didn't make a scoring change, he said: ``We won the game. Everyone's happy. I'm happy. That's all that matters.'' by CNB
