Maurice Elmer Merritt Sr., 71, of the 6500 block of Thaxton St., a retired carrier technician, died March 14, 1995, in the Hampton Veterans Hospital.
Mr. Merritt was born in Norfolk and was a member of St. John AME Church, Bute St. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years and was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Jerry Hightower Merritt; a daughter, Jacqueline A. Merritt; and a son, Maurice E. Merritt Jr. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary I. Merritt and father, Samuel E. Merritt Sr.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in Hale Funeral Home by Bishop Eugene Brown Sr. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
