Two teams from Manor and teams from PRHA/YAD and Cradock captured championships in the annual Portsmouth Youth All-Stars Basketball Tournament.
Manor took titles in the Little Girls and Junior Girls divisions. PRHA/YAD won the Little Boys crown, and Cradock finished atop the Junior Boys division.
The tournament was held at Churchland Middle School and sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department.
Manor defeated Churchland in the final of the Little Girls tourney, 23-11. Kristin Jernigan paced the winners with eight points and was chosen as the most valuable player.
Churchland's Lashica Young, chosen as the most outstanding player, tallied four points in the loss.
In the earlier round, Manor topped Churchland, 18-10, with Jernigan scoring six. Lori Lemoine had six for Churchland.
In the Junior Girls championship game, Manor also won over Churchland, posting a 28-13 victory. Desi Maxwell, selected as the MVP, had 11 points for Manor. Betsy Facenda scored six for Churchland and was the most outstanding player.
Cradock swept through the double-elimination Junior Boys tourney without a loss. Cradock topped Churchland in the final, 64-60. Kevin Johnson, the tourney MVP, led the win with 13 points. Derrick Dawson scored 10 for Churchland and was the most outstanding player.
En route to the title Cradock beat Manor, 57-30, and Churchland, 55-53, in earlier games.
Churchland had a pair of victories in reaching the final, topping PRHA/YAD twice, 47-41 and 55-50.
In the other game, PRHA/YAD downed Manor, 56-50.
In the Little Boys final, PRHA/YAD bested Manor, 49-31, with Brandon Hall scoring 17, Juan Lee, 12, and Aron Turner, 10. Adam Johnson had 13 for Manor. Turner was chosen MVP. Johnson was the most outstanding player.
PRHA/YAD defeated Manor in the first round, 43-34, and Churchland in the semifinal round, 56-29.
Churchland topped Cradock in the first round, 48-41, and lost to Manor,33-23, in the final of the losers' bracket. In the other game, Manor beat Cradock, 34-20. by CNB
