`CITIZEN SERVICES GUIDE' IS A `BEST SELLER' FOR CITY THE BROCHURE HAS A LIST OF CITY OFFICIALS, A BRIEF CITY HISTORY AND A LIST OF TOPICS ON BEACH-LINE.

One of the most popular books in town right now is the new ``Citizen Services Guide,'' compiled and distributed by the city's Public Information Office.

``We printed 30,000 of them and they're going fast,'' media services coordinator Katherine Jackson said. In addition to a comprehensive list of services provided by the city, the brochure includes a list of city officials, a brief history of Virginia Beach and a listing of topics available on Beach-Line, the city's informational message service.

For the forgetful, the brochure also includes a list of such important dates as those on which personal property taxes are due, business licenses must be renewed and city offices are closed. A newcomer's guide serves as a quick reference for the addresses and phone numbers, both within and outside the city government, which are most needed by new residents.

So far 20,000 copies of the 70 page brochure have been placed in distribution through city libraries, recreation centers and treasurer's offices. While the supply lasts, civic leagues and other organizations wishing multiple copies may get them by calling Beach-Line at 427-3580, Ext. 707.

The current brochure replaces one last published in 1988. ``We didn't put them out for a few years because of the tight budgets,'' Jackson said, ``but since it's our most requested publication, we decided it was time to do a new one.''

The total cost for the initial 30,000 copies was $13,000, $5,000 of which was covered by the sale of advertising. by CNB
