EX-ENVOY TO ADDRESS WORLD AFFAIRS COUNCIL

The World Affairs Council of Greater Hampton Roads will celebrate its 25th anniversary Thursday with an appearance by a former diplomat speaking on ``Who Cares About Foreign Affairs.''

The speaker, G. Philip Hughes, is executive director of the National Council of World Affairs Organizations. He was previously U.S. ambassador in the Eastern Caribbean, and from 1981 to 1990, served on the National Security Council at the White House. He also has worked as an assistant secretary of commerce, deputy assistant secretary of state and director for intelligence policy in the office of the secretary of defense.

The program will be in Webb Center at Old Dominion University, from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $10 for members and $12 for nonmembers. For reservations, call the council at 461-3664 or 422-8445 by Monday. by CNB
