GIRL, 19, KILLED IN PORTSMOUTH AS MEN WALK UP, BEGIN SHOOTING

A 19-year-old girl was fatally shot Tuesday night in front of her apartment building by four men who approached a group of people began firing.

Telisha Johnson, 19, of 1530 Green St. was pronounced dead at Portsmouth General Hospital, said police spokesman G.A. Brown.

Johnson was standing in front of the apartment building about 9:15 p.m. The men, Brown said, parked a burgundy Chevrolet Celebrity down the street and approached Johnson and the others. .

All four men were armed. They were described as black, and dressed in dark leather jackets, Brown said.

``Reportedly, the individuals just walked up and started shooting,'' Brown said. No one else was injured, he said.

Brown said he did not know how many times Johnson had been shot or what kind of weapons the men were using.

Brown would not say if the shooting was connected to a carjacking and robbery that took place earlier in the evening.

The three men who are suspects in that case were described much like the men who killed Johnson.

In the carjacking, a 1991 Honda Accord was stolen from a man at an Exxon station on Towne Point Road in Portsmouth's Churchland section.

The man also was assaulted and robbed.

He walked to a restaurant on Western Branch Boulevard, where he called police.

Chesapeake police later recovered the Honda in the parking lot of a NationsBank on Western Branch Boulevard.
