The ``Gray Eagle'' award ceremony was held Tuesday before ranks of

crewmen, above, aboard the aircraft carrier America. The award is

passed to the most senior aviator on active duty. This year the

honor was presented to Rear Adm. David R. Morris, left, who accepted

the award from retiring Adm. Stanley R. Arthur, the vice chief of

naval operations. The trophy features a silver eagle landing into

the arresting gear (cable) on a wood shape depicting the Langley -

the Navy's first aircraft carrier. An inscription reads: ``In

recognition of a clear eye, a stout heart, a steady hand and daring

defiance of gravity and the law of averages.''
