Regarding Penelope Kyle's ``The facts about the Virginia Lottery'' (letter, March 19): The law should certainly not prohibit advertising the lottery. On the other hand, it might not be a bad idea to step back and analyze the type of advertising that is presently being used.
From my vantage point, the current advertising is poor at best and would appear to be excessive. The latest ads tell us that playing the Virginia Lottery is a no-brainer when compared with Las Vegas or Reno. This seems to be a continuation of an advertising campaign that is designed to insult our intelligence.
A better advertising approach would be to deep-six the present ad agency and start a fresh, new approach that sticks with the basics. Tell us how much is in the jackpot and let us see who the winners have been and how much they have won. This approach lends much more credibility to the lottery and would be a far cry better than the current advertising effort.
