Martin Ackerman, 78, of the 300 block of Washington St., a retired drug store owner and community philanthropist, died March 27, 1995, in a Norfolk hospital. Mr. Ackerman was a native of Philadelphia, Pa.
He was the retired owner and operator of Medic-Center Drug Stores and was active in community and civic affairs for the last 20 years. Mr. Ackerman was a member of Gomley Chesed Synagogue and its board. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Betsy Katz Ackerman; a daughter, Marlene A. Nusbaum of Newton, Mass.; two sisters, Faye Goodman and Sandy Kraft, both of Bonita Springs, Fla.; a brother, Sidney Ackerman of Philadelphia; and a granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Nusbaum.
A graveside service will be held today at 1 p.m. in Gomley Chesed Cemetery by Rabbi Philip S. Krohn. All contributions may be made to the Endowment Fund of Gomley Chesed Synagogue. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, is handling arrangements.
