Hugh Shirley ``Copperhead'' Stewart, 91, died Monday, March 27, 1995.
Mr. Stewart was a lifelong resident of Chesapeake. He was a retired farmer and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Nash Stewart.
Survivors include a daughter, Katherine Stewart Guy of South Mills, N.C.; a son, Samuel C. Stewart and a daughter-in-law, Hazel Stewart, both of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; a daughter-in-law, Etta Stewart of Chesapeake; a cousin, Red Whitehurst of Chesapeake; a grandson, Thomas Addison Guy of Virginia Beach; and a great-nephew, Bentley Sorey, also of Virginia Beach.
A graveside service will be held Friday, March 31, 1995, at 2 p.m. in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Chesapeake, with the Rev. Tom Mercer officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Twiford Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Hickory United Methodist Church.
