William A. Dupree Jr., 74, of the 1200 block of North River Drive, a retired chief quarterman, died March 27, 1995, in Richmond.
Mr. Dupree was born in Bahama, N.C., and was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Shop 11. He retired in 1976 after 37 1/2 years. He was an active member of The Loyal Order of the Moose (NU)898, Portsmouth, for 39 years, where he was past Governor, past Pilgrim of the Order, past State President, and past Deputy Supreme Governor. He was selected as International Moose of the Year in 1982, and was presently serving as Mooseheart/Moosehaven Admissions Representative.
Survivors include his wife, Fay S. Dupree; two daughters, Sharon D. Eason and Deena D. Collins, both of Portsmouth; a stepdaughter, Jo Anne Strickland of Chesapeake; a son, Bobby Dupree of Nags Head, N.C.; two stepsons, Bryan V. Bass of Portsmouth and John Bass of Roanoke, Va. He was predeceased by his parents, William A. and Lizzie B. Dupree Sr., and a daughter, Alice D. Bridges.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Chapel, Chesapeake by Mr. Keith J. Lewis. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home after which Moose rites will be conducted at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mooseheart Endowment Fund, Mooseheart, Ill. 60539.
