Charles E. Gifford, 87, a retired landscape architect, died March 27, 1995, in his home.
Mr. Gifford was born in Sutton, Mass., and was retired from Winn Nursery after 40 years. He was a member of Episcopal Church of the Ascension and the Vestry and Choir. He was a member and past president of the Wards Corner Lions Club; served in the U.S. Army Quarter Master Corps during World War II and transferred to the Army Reserve. He was an alumnus of the University of Massachusetts.
Survivors include his wife, Doris A. Gifford; two daughters, Nancy G. Bibb of Portola, Calif., and Merrilee Olwin of Virginia Beach; a daughter-in-law, Betty Gifford of Chesapeake; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was the son of the late John E. and Luella D. Gifford of Sutton, Mass., and was predeceased by a son, Dudley A. Gifford.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Episcopal Church of the Ascension by the Rev. Mark Delcuze. Burial will be private. Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Ascension or Wards Corner Lions Club.
