A military ID tag inscribed ``POW & MIA Never Forgotten'' is the focus of a new commemorative stamp from the U.S. Postal Service.
The tag is displayed in front of an American flag on the 32-cent stamp, which is to go on sale Memorial Day, May 29, to commemorate Americans who have been held as prisoners of war or were missing in action.
``It is a symbol of accounting for and caring for all our men and women in uniform. It is a symbol of commemorating and remembering all our POWs and MIAs'' in all wars, Postmaster General Marvin Runyon said Tuesday.
Postal officials said the identification tags were selected for the stamp because many veterans preserve the tags as keepsakes and pass them down to their children.
Ceremonies marking the first day of issue for the stamps will be held in Washington.
This will be the agency's second POW-MIA stamp; the first was in 1970.
Postal officials said they plan to waive their normal licensing fee for qualified nonprofit organizations that want to use the stamp design on T-shirts, sweatshirts, coffee mugs and other items. ILLUSTRATION: ASSOCIATED PRESS
