WE WANT A DRESS CODE

I am appalled at the time and energy Charlene Christopher takes away from her Education Association of Norfolk responsibilities to criticize and attack the efforts of the principal and faculty of Ruffner Middle School (letter, March 26).

She persistently mentions the feelings ``we'' share and the things ``we'' object to. Please be advised that she does not speak for me and many of my fellow EAN members at Ruffner on this teacher-dress-code issue. If we have grievances, we certainly are aware of redress procedures.

A majority of the faculty at Ruffner wanted and voted for a dress code for teachers. Also, the parents of Ruffner students believe that uniforms for children would have a positive effect on their offspring's education.

If we are so dissatisfied with Ruffner, it should be reflected in the number of voluntary transfers in June.

Meanwhile, give us a break! We are trying to teach, and our children want to learn.
