It became obvious early in the game that everyone on the Western Branch boys soccer team was going to see a lot of playing time Thursday night.
As it turned out, most of those players also got a chance to score, as the Bruins manhandled Nansemond River, 10-0, at Western Branch.
Chris Loper not only tallied a hat trick, but he scored all three of his goals in the second half and he scored them all back-to-back.
Starting goalie Daniel Dussia even got into the scoring act.
After the Bruins took a 5-0 lead into the half, Bruins coach Ricki Bright made some changes and let Dussia play forward in the second half.
Dussia had a couple of shots at Warriors' keeper Jerred Fender and kicked the ball right into Fender's hands, but on his third attempt, Dussia came at Fender on the left side and sent the ball across the mouth of the goal and into the right corner to give the Bruins a 9-0 lead.
It was the left side that gave Fender so much trouble in the first half.
Three Bruins scored on nearly identical shots in a span of less than four minutes in the first half to open up a 3-0 lead.
Mike Lewis scored first from well outside the box. Lenny Weinstein added the second off a pass from Chris Loper from a distance slightly closer than Lewis' and Kenny Sloane scored the first of his consecutive goals from yet a little closer, but still the same side of the goal.
Ryan Woodard and Justin Deaver also had goals for the Bruins. by CNB
