Regarding ``Beyer needs to prove ability to lead'' (Another View, March 28): I am optimistic that under Don Beyer's leadership, we can not only retain a Democratic majority in the House but also pick up a few seats.
This past session showed what a unified Virginia Democratic Party can accomplish. And Lieutenant Governor Beyer led Democrats every step of the way. He articulated his response to Governor Allen's proposed cuts to higher education and ``Meals on Wheels'' for Virginia senior citizens. And the compromise on welfare reform would never have been reached without Mr. Beyer's support.
Don Beyer is courteous and thoughtful, but he also has the experience and work ethic to lead Virginia Democrats to victory.
