Shameka Williams and Brandon McLeon get cuffed by Officer Linzy.
It's the kids against YMCA staffers Saturday at Healthy Kids Day.
Police officer Craig Linzy talks to youngsters about safety.
A fire truck, an ambulance and a police car were in the Suffolk YMCA
parking lot Saturday. Yes, it was serious - part of an effort to
show children how to live better. Healthy Kids Day, an annual event
at Ys across the nation, began locally three years ago. Last week,
about 150 children and some parents visited the Suffolk Y
observance. ``It's an opportunity for families to enjoy being
together while improving their health,'' said program director,
David Bostic. There was a tug-of-war, sack race, some basketball,
lots of running and plenty of laughter. There were also serious
moments. Officer Craig Linzy spoke of avoiding abuse. Getting into
the police car and turning on the siren was the fun part of the
presentation. ``Today's activities are good. My daughter is a
gymnast, and she showed what she could do,'' Vanessa Brown said of
her daughter Latoya, 9.
