Paramount Pictures' ``Forrest Gump'' - starring Tom Hanks as a dim-witted Southerner who romps through 20th century history - has surpassed ``Star Wars'' as the third-highest-grossing film in North America, bringing in $323.6 million. The movie also has grossed $609.9 million worldwide, ranking it fourth, behind ``Jurassic Park,'' ``The Lion King'' and ``E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.''
``Forrest Gump'' is the highest-grossing film to ever win an Academy Award for best picture. It won six Oscars at the March 27 ceremony, including one for Hanks as best actor. ILLUSTRATION: Color graphic
