COFFEE HAS VANILLA TASTE TO LAST DROP

THE NUMBER of new coffee products seems endless. The latest entry is Maxwell House's new line of flavored ground coffees.

It's sold in cans, just like regular and decaf, but these coffees have added flavors, like Swiss Cocoa, French Vanilla and Irish Creme - and they are presweetened. A 9.5-ounce can sells for $4.29. Men man the grill

When it comes grilling out, men are more often the cooks.

So say the folks at the Weber Grill-Line hot line. When callers were asked who was responsible for barbecuing, 55 percent said the men, 22 percent said women, and 23 percent said it's a shared responsibility.

The most frequently asked question: ``How do I light the fire?''

Grill-Line hours are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays until Sept. 4. Even onions are blossoming

Julie Cross of Como, N.C., wanted to know whether she needed a special cutter to make those onion ``blossoms'' available in many restaurants.

According to the Vidalia Onion Committee, a Georgia-based group that promotes Vidalias, you just need a good knife, a deep-fryer and patience.

Betty Payne of the Patrol Unit Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America tracked down a recipe for us. The Ladies are selling Vidalias in Norfolk and Virginia Beach beginning this weekend. Call Payne at 721-3131 for more information. Designer M&Ms?

With all the hoopla about the new blue M&M, I figure it won't be long before the candies are available in designer colors like mauve and teal. I can see it now: ``Gucci M&Ms'' or ``This bag matches Waverly wallpaper design No. 138976.'' Calorie-cutting spray?

Breath sprays used to just make you kissable.

Now, Enrich International of Orem, Utah, has invented AromaFresh, a spray the company says helps you lose weight, too.

A spritz of the citrus-tasting fluid under your tongue and your craving for sweets will be satisfied, according to a press release.

If you want to try it, call (800) 748-8288. AromaFresh costs $14.95 for less than an ounce. by CNB
