COPELAND WILL SEEK RE-ELECTION TO STATE HOUSE

Del. Howard E. Copeland will seek re-election in November, he said Sunday.

Copeland, a Democrat who represents the 87th House District, was first elected to the House of Delegates in 1980. He has been there ever since, except for 1982 when he lost a primary election. He was re-elected at the end of 1982.

``There is still unfinished business I want to tackle next year,'' Copeland said in a prepared statement. ``There are victim and witness protections we could not get adopted this year, and I was able to pass the taxpayers bill of rights through the House, but I need to discuss it further with the Senate.''

Copeland, whose district includes the Ocean View section of Norfolk and the Chesapeake Beach section of Virginia Beach, has recently specialized in Chesapeake Bay issues. He became chairman of the House committee on the Bay last year; he also is a member of the Chesapeake Bay Commission, a three-state legislative body.
