Dr. Rene Guillermo Perez-Lopez, 81, a retired attorney and Spanish teacher, died April 17, 1995, at home.
Mr. Perez-Lopez was born in Santa Clara, Cuba. His parents were Rafael Perez Lopez Silvero and Natalia Lopez Silvero Jova.
Dr. Perez-Lopez obtained a doctorate in law from the University of Havana in 1940, and he practiced that profession in Cuba until 1962, when he moved to the U.S.A. He worked for Cluett, Peabody and Co. in Troy, N.Y., and later as a Spanish teacher at the Germantown Central School and at the Coxsackie Correctional Institution.
Recently, Dr. Perez-Lopez completed a volume of memoirs of his hometown, Santa Clara, to be published.
He was a member of the Colegio de Abogados de Cuba en el Exilio.
Survivors include his wife, Dr. MartaJ. Perez-Lopez, Emeritus Professor of Spanish from Russell Sage College, Troy, N.Y.; his sons, Rene, Library Director at Virginia Wesleyan College; Jorge F., an International Economist at the Department of Labor, Washington, D.C., and Guillermo A., a Pharmacist in Virginia Beach; his daughters-in-law, Melanie M., Kathleen G. and Linda M.; eight grandchildren, Juliana C., Mark S., Raquel T., Gina M., Daniel J., Andrew L., Mary Jo and Thomas W.; and one great-grandchild, Nicholas D.
H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk Chapel, is in charge of funeral arrangements. A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 18, from 6 to 8 p.m at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach, where a mass of the resurrection will be celebrated by the Rev. Daniel Klem, Wednesday, April 19, at 11 a.m.
