Ruby Bell Johnston Simmons-Waterfield passed away Saturday, April 15th, at home with family in Moneta, Va.
She was born June 14th, 1913, in Middlesex County, Va. She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Hattie Johnston and was wife of the late Thomas B. Simmons Sr.
In raising her eight children, she mostly enjoyed sewing, singing and working in her garden. She taught Sunday School for several years and attended Rock Church.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond E. Waterfield and eight children, Thomas B. Simmons and a wife, Maria Marion Jordan of Bedford, Va., John S. Simmons and wife, Ruth of Chesapeake, Annette R. Bailey of Elizabeth City, N.C., Ray E. Simmons and wife, Linda of Chesapeake, Linda Gregory and husband, Willis of Chesapeake, Patricia S. Ballengee and husband, Samuel of Moneta, Va., and James F. Simmons and wife, Christine of Chesapeake; two brothers, William P. Johnston of Roanoke, Va., and James B. Johnston of Baltimore, Md.; 30 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, by the Rev. J.E. Slater. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the home of Linda Gregory at 2424 S. Battlefield Blvd. following the services.
