An 11-year-old boy was killed and his mother and sister were hurt late Sunday when the Portsmouth family's truck crashed on Interstate 664 near College Drive, state police said.
The accident happened at 11:30 p.m., state police spokeswoman Tammy Van Dame said. A Chevrolet Blazer driven by Arlene L. Spencer veered into the center median and hit a guard rail, Van Dame said. Spencer's son, Derrick, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the Blazer, Van Dame said.
Spencer and her 15-year-old daughter, Crystal, were seriously hurt, Van Dame said. Crystal was not wearing a seat belt; her mother apparently was.
The mother and daughter were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where the mother was treated and released. Crystal was transferred to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters in Norfolk, where she was listed in stable condition Monday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
Van Dame said the accident is under investigation.
