CONVENTION BUREAU SEEKING PHOTOS OF PORTSMOUTH

Load the camera with film, head out for some fun and perhaps win dinner for two at Vic Zodda's Restaurant. The Portsmouth Convention and Visitors Bureau is sponsoring a ``Shoot For Fun Photo Contest'' in celebration of Virginia Heritage Tourism Weeks, April 30-May 14.

The only stipulation: your fun must be in Portsmouth.

``We want entries,'' said Renae Wayland, who came up with the idea for the event. ``I haven't received one yet!''

All entries must be received by the Portside Visitor Information Center, 6 Crawford Parkway, on or before May 3. Photos should be submitted with the name and daytime phone number of the photographer. Photos do not have to be recent, and an explanation of the photo is optional, said Wayland.

Judging will take place May 4 by the staff of the Portsmouth Convention and Visitors Bureau, where Wayland is group sales manager.

``We'll just be looking for creative ways that show fun in Portsmouth,'' she said. ``I hope it goes over well. Maybe it will be an annual event.''

In addition to dinner for two, the winner will also receive a goody bag filled with ``Portsmouth'' paraphernalia: pencils, mugs, keychains, etc.

Entries will be displayed at the Visitors Center through May 14. Call 393-5327 for details.

Also in celebration of Heritage Tourism Weeks, free lantern tours of Olde Towne will be held May 2, May 4 and May 9.

The hour-long tours, detailing the history and folklore of the historic area, will begin at 7 p.m. in front of the Visitors Center at Portside. Call 393-5111 for reservations. by CNB
