Robert McNamara should now be tried and convicted of war crimes for the slaughter of 19,000-plus young Americans.
The idea that his voice wouldn't have made a difference to try to stop that slaughter is ridiculous. From the position he held in government, he could have rallied the nation behind him and demanded an end to the war. He is trying now only to cleanse his soul.
I came back alive from service in Vietnam. Some of my good friends did not.
