William Edward Hackney, Jr., (75) of 4248 Lighthouse Drive, died on April 19, 1995, at Obici Hospital. Mr. Hackney was born in Norfolk and was the husband of Dorothy Saunders Hackney. He was a member and trustee of Berea Congregational Church, Past Master of Harmony Lodge (NU)149 and a member of Nansemond Lodge (NU)77. He was a building contractor and the developer of the Rivercliff Subdivision in Suffolk.
Survivors include daughters, Judith H. Caples of Richmond and Susan J. Hackney of Greenfield, MA, and sons, William D. Hackney of Gaithersburg, MD, and John R. Hackney of Nashville, TN, brother, Raymond H. Hackney of Suffolk, and sister, Betty H. Alley of Raleigh, NC, and grandchildren, Tiffany Peay, Cathy Butler, Brian Peay and Scarlett Hackney.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 22, at Baker-Foster Funeral Home at Bennett's Creek by Rev. James Cress and Rev. Robert Bennett. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 7:00-8:30 P.M. Friday, April 21.
