John Henry Gilchrist Sr., 70, of the 6800 block of Tanners Creek Drive, died April 19, 1995, in his home.
A native of Princess Anne County, he was retired from Norfolk & Western Railroad after 17 years. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, and was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Vernice J. Gilchrist; two daughters, Phyllis Bolden of Laurel, Md., and Terrianne Gilchrist of Virginia Beach; three sons, John Gilchrist Jr. of Virginia Beach, Clifton Gilchrist of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Eric Gilchrist of Largo, Md.; five sisters, Ella Mae Gallop, Naomi Gills, Vernice Sanderson, Marion Vaughn and Rose Mae Jones of Virginia Beach; three brothers, Rueben Gilchrist and Alphonso Gilchrist, both of Virginia Beach, and Walter Gilchrist of Chesapeake; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Mount Bethel Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. A.D. Moore. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Fitchett Funeral Home, Chesapeake, is in charge.
