TAMARA VONINSKI/Staff

Helen Sewell (standing), an instructor at Safety City, a miniature

town where children learn pedestrian safety, teaches children from

Willoughby Elementary the meaning of red, yellow and green traffic

lights. Laura Smith, a parent volunteer at the school, listens at

left.

Sewell shows the students how to cross a street safely by using a

crosswalk and looking and listening for traffic.

Sewell teaches Jenny Kramer, 5, and Kristopher Smith, 4 (with mother

Laura), to look both ways before crossing the street.
