Portsmouth schools are nearing the finish line in the ``Race for the Gold'' event.
Students have been donating their pennies at each school in support of the ``You & Me'' exhibit at the Children's Museum of Virginia.
Gallon jugs were placed at the end of cafeteria lines in all elementary schools and a wishing well has been placed at all the city's middle and high schools.
Prior to May 10, members of the Merrimac Kiwanis Club will collect all of the coin containers and determine which school will win the ``Race for the Gold,'' based on money raised.
The ``You & Me'' exhibit is being sponsored by the city of Portsmouth's City of the Future Cultural Diversity Team and the Merrimac Kiwanis Club. by CNB
