SPRING INTO POETRY

The annual Poetry in Portsmouth festival will be celebrated in four different locations Wednesday through Saturday.

The festival features local, regional and national poets. Admission is free to readings, but reservations are required.

The Commodore Theatre, 421 High Street, will host an ``open mike'' evening of poetry selections at 6:30 p.m Wednesday. The public is invited to read, but readers must pre-register and selections must be pre-approved.

Brutti's Cafe, 467 Dinwiddie St. will present poetry from the Poetry Society of Virginia at 6:30 p.m Thursday.

Pulitzer prize winning poet Henry Taylor will read at the Visual Arts Center of Tidewater Community College at 6:30 p.m Friday.

The Children's Museum of Virginia will host the winners of a poetry contest among Hampton Roads Schools at 10 a.m. Saturday. Actors Shirley Hurd and Bentley Anderson will read the winning poems and present the prizes. by CNB
