WEEKEND FISHING REPORT

David Charles Greene Jr. of Virginia Beach has boated one of the heaviest tautog ever pulled from around the rocks of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. It weighed 16 pounds, 7 ounces. Greene was on the boat Out on a Limb.

Although no one keeps official records, most tautog caught around the bridge-tunnel's pilings and artificial islands weigh less than 12 pounds. A 14-pounder is considered exceptional and a 16-pounder a true rarity.

Elsewhere, a major run of red drum developed at Cape Point at Buxton-on-Hatteras, N.C., Friday night. Some observers estimated that more than 100 fish were caught. Most were measured and released.

The biggest reported drum was 52 inches long and was beached by Jeff Donnovan of Mechanicsville, Va. It was estimated at almost 60 pounds.

Several anglers caught and released two big drum and Mike Spicer, the drum specialist from Virginia Beach, released three. Chris Tribelprice of Virginia Beach claimed her first, a 35-pounder beached near Hatteras Inlet.

Ray Barnhill and Russell Hogan of Moyock, N.C., won a largemouth bass team tournament Sunday out of Bob's Fishing Hole on the Northwest River. Their combined catch weighed 18 pounds, 2 ounces.

Cheryl Williams of Norfolk won a Bass-N-Babes largemouth tournament Sunday on Hall's Creek, near Elizabeth City, N.C., with a catch going 13-4.
