Orville Lee ``Obie'' Baum, 86, died Monday, April 24, 1995, at his residence.
Mr. Baum was born in Kitty Hawk and was a retired independent oil dealer and a contract distributor for 25 years for The Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star. He attended N.C. State College from 1929 to 1931 and majored in engineering. He was a member of Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church and a former member and president of Dare County Chamber of Commerce and one of the original members of the Dare County Tourist Bureau.
Mr. Baum was the son of the late Elijah William Baum and the late Hettie Baum Baum and the husband of Elizabeth ``Lib'' Griffin Baum.
Besides his wife, Mr. Baum is survived by one daughter, Matilda B. Zuhars of Kitty Hawk; one sister, Edna B. Harris of Kitty Hawk; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Austin Cemetery with the Rev. Brad Bradshaw officiating. Visitation will be at Twiford's Colony Chapel in Manteo from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. The family will meet at the home of Jeff and Matilda Zuhars and at other times at 3868 Elijah Baum Road, Kitty Hawk, N.C. 27949.
