Donald Orr Hawkins, 75, died April 25, 1995, at Portsmouth General Hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Hawkins was born in Charlotte, N.C., son of the late Grover and Nellie Hawkins. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was owner of Donald O. Hawkins Electrical Contractors in Portsmouth for 40 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a former member of the Kiwanis Club. He was a member and active participant in Monumental United Methodist Church for 50 years, once serving as chairman of the church Board of Trustees as well as holding many other positions in the church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Julia H. ``Judy'' Hawkins.
Survivors include one daughter, Susan L. Hawkins of Portsmouth; two sons, Donald O. Hawkins Jr. of Virginia Beach and Andrew C. Hawkins of Portsmouth; one sister, Mary H. Coursey of Pensacola, Fla.; one brother, Frank L. Hawkins of Portsmouth; and four grandsons.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 28, in Monumental United Methodist Church by the Rev. Raymond H. Edmonds Jr. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Foster Funeral Home. The family will be at his home today from 5 to 8 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Monumental United Methodist Church or Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, Norfolk.
