ODU AWARDS: Ericka Davidheiser and Petey Sessoms were named the Old Dominion University Alumni Association Athletes of the Year, while Gwen Davis and Rob Caputo were named Old Dominion University/WTAR Scholar Athletes of the Year on Tuesday at the ODU Athletic Honors Banquet and Hall of Fame Induction Dinner at the Omni Waterside Hotel.
Davidheiser earned first-team All-CAA honors for the fourth consecutive season. She is ranked fourth in the nation in assists with 21 and is 21st in the nation in scoring with 44 points.
Sessoms, named CAA Player of the Year and CAA tournament MVP, is the school's No. 3 all-time scorer with 1,985 career points, and this year led the CAA in scoring (22.1 points per game) and was second in rebounding (8.4 per game) and free-throw percentage (.830).
Davis was named a first-team Academic All-American for the second consecutive year by the College Field Hockey Coaches Association. One of the team's top defensive players, she helped lead the Lady Monarchs to their fourth consecutive CAA title.
Caputo, a three-year letterman at the midfield position, started in all 19 of ODU's games this season, totaling two goals and two assists.
Old Dominion also inducted five former athletes into the school's Hall of Fame: Kevin Bearse (baseball), Wilson L. Dozier (baseball, basketball and football), Terry Hutchinson (sailing), Kelly Lyons (women's basketball) and Marianne Stanley (women's basketball).
In addition, the most valuable players from each sport were recognized. They were:
