Julie A. Brown has received the Girl Scout Gold award. Brown is a member of the Sandpiper troop, which is attached to the Woods Corner service unit.
In 11 years of Scouting, she has earned 32 proficiency badges, 37 interest project patches, six service training bars, a career exploration pin, a Cadette and Senior leadership award, a Cadette and Senior challenge and a Cadette silver award.
For her Gold award project, she provided homeless people at the Judeo-Christian Outreach Shelter an opportunity to have pictures of themselves taken to send to loved ones during the holidays.
Brown, 17, received honorable mention for the Buck Harris award in 1994.
She attends Salem High School where she is involved in drama and the literary magazine, works in the library and the office and is a member of the Class of '96.
Brown is the daughter of Bonnie Brown-Murphy and Ronald E. Murphy of Indian Lakes and she attends Providence Presbyterian Church.
