JOSEPH D. BLYTHE

Joseph Dudley Blythe, 82, of Rt. 1, died April 28, 1995, in his home.

Mr. Blythe was born on December 1, 1912, to James Lonnie Blythe and wife Willie Dunnie Evans Blythe, in Harrellsville township, Hertford County, North Carolina.

He was a member of Christian Harbor Baptist Church where he was a deacon, a Sunday School teacher and choir member for 50 years.

Judge Blythe graduated from Wake Forest College (now University) with a Bachelor of Law degree in 1936 and practiced law in Hertford County, retiring as Chief Judge of the Sixth Judicial District.

He was an army veteran of World War II and was discharged as a Captain in the Field Artillery. He was one of the organizers of the North Carolina National Guard in Ahoskie, NC, and retired as Lieutenant Colonel from the Judge Advocate General's Corps, Army of the United States.

He was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and served as chairman of the North Carolina State Legislature Committee. He was a Mason and member of Wiccacon Lodge (NU)240 of Harrellsville, a member and past president of the Ahoskie Rotary Club and was twice a Paul Harris Fellow.

He is survived by his brother, Edwin Gray Blythe and wife, Maxine R. Blythe, of Harrellsville, and sister-in-law, Margaret L. Blythe of Newport News, VA, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Christian Harbor Baptist Church by the Rev. Jimmy Cone and Dr. Davis Smith. Burial will be in Harrellsville Cemetery. Arrangements by Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to Roanoke Chowan Hospice, P.O. Box 272, Ahoskie, NC, 27910 or to the Harrellsville Rescue Squad, Harrellsville, NC, 27942.
