Carlton Irvin Tate, 75, of the 200 block of Bellhaven Road, a retired mechanical inspector, died April 27, 1995, in Portsmouth.
Mr. Tate was born in Roanoke. He had retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Cradock United Methodist Church, Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge 178 A.F. & A.M. and a member and past patron of Victory Chapter 16, Order of the Eastern Star. He was a Navy veteran of WWII.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Carter Tate; a daughter, Juanita Tate Peterson of Glasgow, Ky.; a son, John Carlton Tate of Portsmouth; a sister, Ruth Tate Young of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Jeff Peterson of Newport News, Lori Hodge of Glasgow, Ky., and Christopher Tate of Portsmouth; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, May 1, 1995 in Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel, by the Rev. George H. Close Jr. Burial with masonic rites will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge Building Fund or Cradock United Methodist Church.
