FISHING SLOW BUT RODANTHE REPORTS A GOOD RUN OF BLUES

Pier anglers along the northern beach area found fishing slow Friday.

Kitty Hawk Pier reported a few small spot and skates landed. A handful of trout and blues was taken on Nags Head Pier. Fishermen on Jennette's Pier and Outer Banks Pier caught small croaker and spot.

On Hatteras Island, Rodanthe Pier reported a good run of 1- to 3-pound blues during the morning. Fishing on Avon Pier was only fair, with a few sea mullet taken. Frisco Pier reported good catches of tailor blues, along with a few sea mullet from the 66-degree clear water.

Surf fishing along the beach from Corolla to Oregon Inlet was slow. Anglers fishing from the revetment on the south side of Oregon Inlet caught scattered tailor blues and a few flounder. Sea mullet fishing was good at ramp 34 and ramp 38 on Hatteras Island.

Cape Point produced a dozen drum Thursday night, and scattered sea mullet and tailor blues during the day Friday. Nice flounder were reported taken along the beach south of Cape Point.

Yellowfin tuna fishing was good Friday around ``The Point,'' southeast of Oregon Inlet, although the fish were a little smaller than on previous days. Dolphin fishing was also good in the area.

Charters from Hatteras caught scattered tuna, dolphin and wahoo. A blue marlin was released by Capt. Rom Whitaker's ``Release.''

The water temperature at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 54 degrees on Friday. by CNB
