Bernard Edwin Monroe Sr., 90, a retired salesman, died April 28, 1995, in Norfolk.
Mr. Monroe was retired from E.K. Wilson & Sons Heating and Air Conditioning. He was a member of Lynnhaven United Methodist Church, Virginia Beach, Corinthian Masonic Lodge (NU)266, Khedive Temple of the Shrine Musician's Association and a former member of the Khedive Temple of the Shrine Band. He was the widower of Frances Sale Monroe.
Survivors include three daughters, Ann M. Ellis of Virginia Beach, Mary M. Taylor of DeLand, Fla., and Jean M. Helmka of Gettysburg, Pa.; two sons, J. Whidbee Monroe Sr., and Bernard E. Monroe Jr. of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Thelma Phelps of Oregon City, Ore., and Neva Erickson of Middlesex, N.J.; a brother, E.J. Monroe of Margate, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Elmwood Cemetery by the Rev. Bruce D. Tuttle. Friends may join the family at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today for visitation.
