Ellis Foster Butt Sr., 75, of the 600 block of City Park Ave., died April 30, 1995, in his residence.
Mr. Butt was a native of Portsmouth. He was the widower of Dorothy E. Butt. He had retired from the Portsmouth Fire Department as a lieutenant and was owner and operator of Butt's Ceramics Shop on Shea Street. He was a Baptist and was a member of Portsmouth Naval Masonic Lodge 100 and Portsmouth Commandery 5.
Survivors include two sons, Ellis F. Butt Jr. of Chesterfield, Va., and Richard D. Butt of Portsmouth; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel, by the Rev. Damon Wyatt and the Rev. Tom Potter. Burial with masonic rites will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 7 to 8 p.m.
