ONE-YEAR-OLD CHILD KILLED IN APARTMENT FIRE

A baby was killed Monday night in an apartment fire in the 4500 block of Washington Ave.

The one-year-old child, whose name was not released, was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center and was pronounced dead.

The two-alarm fire was contained to one room in the Riverside Apartments, located near Newport News Shipbuilding, fire officials said. The cause was not immediately known.

Two fire fighters suffered minor injuries while battling the blaze, fire officials said.
