Mrs. Frankie Carter, 66, of Squirrel Hill Drive, Ridgeland, Miss., died May 1, 1995, at her home from cancer.
Lelia Frances Hodge Carter was born December 30, 1928, in Portsmouth, Va., and had been a resident of Jackson, Miss., since 1952. She was a graduate of Churchland High School in Portsmouth. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Ridgeland. She was retired from McRae's Department Stores, where she was employed for 33 years as Divisional Merchandise Manager of Ladies Sportswear. She was well-known in merchandising circles around the world, from New York, Dallas, Los Angeles, the Orient and Europe. She received the Sun Award for retailer of the Year in 1987 presented to her in Dallas, Texas.
Survivors include her daughter, Jacqui P. Katool of Chesapeake, Va.; a son, Tippy Carter of Brandon; a sister, Bette Hodges Jones of Chesapeake, Va; four grandchildren, Kahlil Katool, Jordan Katool, Heather Carter and Lauren Carter.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel, Ridgeland, Miss. Burial will be in Jessamine Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Central Mississippi, 2600 Insurance Drive, Suite B-10, Jackson, Miss. 39216.
