Clarence Edward Carr of the 900 block of Baltimore St. died in a local hospital on May 3, 1995, after a long illness.
He was born in Norfolk County, Va., on Nov. 26, 1912. He was the husband of the late Thelma Carr and was retired from Sewells Point Golf Course.
Clarence began as a caddy in 1925 when Sewells Point was the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club. Since 1947 he had been the official starter for the club and, in addition, he served as caddymaster and assistant to Mike. You would find Clarence in his starter's office six days a week from morning until night. On Mondays the club struggled along without him.
Survivors include one son, Alvin Corprew of Florida; one stepgranddaughter; one sister, Rosetta Riddick of Norfolk; three nieces, Tremella Broadnax and Shirley Fowler of Norfolk and Alice Greenwood of Philadelphia; 10 great-nieces; eight great-nephews; three great-great-nephews; three great-great-nieces; and a host of relatives and friends.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 6, in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles Leavell. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Cemetery. Graves Funeral Home is handling arrangements. The family will receive friends at 7484 Hughart St. The family will assemble at 7484 Hughart St. at 10 a.m. Saturday.
