I am truly dismayed by the commercials which are appearing on our television sets today. Two commercials stand out.
The first one is a commercial for WWDE radio station. The man appears to leave his house completely nude. The only thing which covers him is a radio. The end of the commercial shows a woman completely nude as well. She is covered by a briefcase (I believe).
The other commercial is a Ballys ad. This one insinuates that you should get yourself in shape for the summer so you can ``take it off'' and have sex. The commercial shows a man and a woman kissing and the woman taking off her blouse while kissing the man.
I am by no means a prude. I have four children and have no hangups about sex; however, I am worried about the message we are sending to our youth. My son, who is 10 years old, was watching the commercial with me! He asked ``Why do they want to take it off?''
Yes, I have taught him about sex in a way appropriate for his age. But how do we teach morality and try to set standards for our children when we are constantly being bombarded with commercials such as these?
