Ulysses S. Sweat Sr., 56, of the 1100 block of Lakeview Drive, a pipefitter, died May 3, 1995, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Mr. Sweat was born in Nansemond County, Va. and was employed with Norshipco. He was formerly employed at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. He was a member of St. Matthew's Apostolic Church, Holland Station, Suffolk.
Survivors include his wife, Lillie W. Sweat; six daughters, Marilyn Sweat and Nikka Saunders, both of Suffolk, Mary Sweat and Lisa Grace, both of Chesapeake, Michele Whitehead and Kim Hill, both of Portsmouth; three sons, Ulysses S. Sweat Jr. of Portsmouth, Martin Parker of North Carolina and Devery Whitehead of Smithfield; a sister, Margie Montique of Suffolk; a brother, Alfred W. Sweat Sr. of Paterson, N.J.; 12 grandchildren; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in St. Matthew's Apostolic Church, 750 Dutch Road, Holland Station, Suffolk, by Elder R.L. Joyner. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Viewing will begin at 4 p.m. today in Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth. The body will be taken to the church prior to the funeral service. Family and friends will assemble at the residence at noon Sunday for the procession to the church.
