William Linwood Piland, 68, died May 9, 1995, in Riverside Hospital, Newport News.
A native of Hertford County, N.C., he was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church, Cofield. He retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation as a crane operator and was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a son, William C. Piland of Hampton; two sisters, Sue Spencer of Windsor, Va., and Maggie Hayes of Crewe, Va.; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Robert May. Burial will be in Harrellsville Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:30 to 6 p.m. today and other times at the home of Sarah Davis, Route 3, Box 197, Ahoskie, N.C.
