First Colonial secured at least a tie for the Beach boys soccer title with a 2-1 overtime victory over defending Group AAA runner-up Cox.
Top-ranked First Colonial (11-1-1 overall, 8-0 in the Beach) needs only to beat or tie Kempsville on Friday to take the title outright.
Joey Broscious scored for the Patriots with 2:12 left in the second five-minute overtime, when he controlled a rebounding ball after Ross Winfield's shot hit the crossbar.
``I just tried to get it on goal and it went through a defender's legs,'' Broscious said.
Broscious was in on First Colonial's tying goal with 22 minutes left in the second half, controling a free kick from Joe Young near the Cox end line and flicking it to Craig Collins who scored easily from about three yards out.
Cox (9-2-2, 5-2-1) opened the scoring 40 seconds into the second half, when Amir Nekoumand sent a wildly-spinning ball that zipped past Patriots keeper Corey Fogle.
